The Cauldron Master's Sanctuary

For this project, we were assigned to create a house for a single resident, detailing our own unique client profiles, and the geometries were limited to a single square, circle, and equilateral triangle. My design was focused on creating a house for Lingsha from Honkai: Star Rail, a healer who crafts natural remedies for the body and mind. The closest modern equivalent to her profession would be a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM, so I incorporated aspects of that into her client profile as well, to fill in gaps or questions left unanswered by her official profile in the game.

In designing and detailing this house, I aimed to align it with themes from Xianzhou, her home world, which is derived heavily from traditional Chinese architecture. I mainly reflected this in the facing of the entryway, the addition of moon gates in the outer concrete wall, providing a spacious courtyard with a tree in the center of an octagonal planter, and the addition of a canopy bed.

In addition to these features, I also utilized the renovated Qingshe Courtyard House by ArchStudio as a reference. The layout and modern aesthetic of the additional features being blended with the conservation of the original architecture had a unique sense of beauty that I felt resonated with Lingsha, who has stuck to her craft over her long lifespan while still displaying her skill in remedying modern ailments.
