DeskDock (USB Dongle and Sleep Oil Holder)
Project Type
Personal Product
Date
February 2025
This was one of my first small projects working with PLA wood filament, which has a unique texture and finish to it that I find extremely comforting, as well as congruent in appearance to my room desk. I wanted to create a holder for my USB Dongles that I use to connect wireless mice to my computer, which for a while had been lying around, which was worrying since they're relatively easy to lose, especially since my MX Master 3S lacked an internal storage compartment for its own dongle. I also had a USB C to A adapter that didn't have a good storage location either.
I also use lavender balm to help me drift off, and although I'm not certain of its effectiveness in that regard, it does help me feel more relaxed, so I wanted to keep it accessible at the edge of my desk as well.
The added functionality as a block to keep my tissue box in place wasn't planned for, but instead a very happy coincidence, as it's helped prevent me from hitting myself in the face in my sleep while violently attempting to extract a tissue.
Furthermore, I was skeptical about how well the curved embossing detail would turn out on such a small scale, and it worked beautifully. I never thought I'd appreciate the functionality of a 1.5 gram filament block so much, but here we are.
